The collecting of antiques goes back almost as far as history, beginning with the preservation of temple treasures. In England, concern for the historical as well as aesthetic significance of antiques led as early as 16th century, to collections illustrating the national past.

Photo-booklet, portraits of a man and woman in bottle curls, engraved, magnified as cover of this book. Daguerreotypes, c. 1850

The second picture looks great. I'm really fond of antique jewelry too but they are hard to find and most of them are expensive. Well, I think it’s because they are unique. I have some pieces in my collection too. I got them from my father and from my uncle. Have a look at this picture. I can say it has an antique design but made out of new materials. What do you think?

They seem to be cameos but they ain't! Well I like all three that are posted here! The pic from psychomantis looks so big, and makes me think that its more like a shield or the back of some big mirror but nothing like a brooch, but if it is then it sure is a very beautiful one!
I wonder if there are pendants with the same design as the book cover, could be used as a locket!

psychomantis can you tell us what that big thing is?! It looks good and it sure has got beautifu l carvings on it but still its quite a mystery, as I have no idea what it could be! It has the shape of old mirrors thoug, except that the carving, cameo like, in the middle is a mirror glass!

What is the first thing in sheikh's picture? It has a weird looking appearance. Is it an artwork? The second one looks great but psychomantis' picture is more beautiful. It has a beautiful design and the three ladies are just great. What's that psychomantis? Can you tell me please?

hi , well i would say that the first one foe sheikh is nice but i kind find the second one not as much good as the first one, instead i find the one psychomatis showed more beautiful. well sheikh i believe that you too are fond of antique pieces but there are some that should be let to stay as history like the second you've showed.

i would say that these are unique items and normally unique items are very expensive.. The three of them are very nice but where did you or even your dad or uncle get them. Have you ever ask for it's price after all these years? How do you preserve such valuable thing at your place? do you place it in a special place, in your dining room or whatever place where it can be easily seen.

These are very interesting pieces. I like most of the antiques jewelry. At least they really are different from those weird items being sold nowadays. I would like to have such kind of items at home but they are hard too find and they surely cost a lot of money. Do you think having a replica of these portraits will be fine?

Having a replica? Why not, if you can't really afford these one as you said, they are expensive but then, having the true one will surely be wonderful because they were made long times ago and they are also unique pieces. These pieces are nice and should be kept well
