How many prongs in setting? - Four Sea Diamonds

I think four prongs looks so nice, especially on a square or emerald cut diamond, but six prongs is more secure.

Do you go for a certian number on your solitaire diamonds or other stones?

usually the amount of prongs depend on the shape/cut of the stone and not on the design of the ring, well six prongs would be hiding a large part of a small stone but it sure would be more secured! i have seen a ring in the sapphire section of this forum where there were no prongs at all!

ugh, i really hate it when the stone is secured with those prongs. okay fine, they give a certain assurance that your stone won't be falling off any minute but it just makes the stone look imprisoned! like some sort of caged bird! and that's just so not-cool.

however, i don't mind the square prongs like the ones in the picture i have posted. they are elegant and don't give an impression of imprisonment, if you see what i mean
