First of all, platinum in its pure form is more or less soft. When it is combined with Ruthenium (A polyvalent hard white metal), it automatically becomes strong and malleable. Platinum is no doubt rarer than gold and has been primarily mined in russia. It starts to be getting rarer every year and actually 10 tons Of ore need to be processed to get 1 ounce of platinum. On the other hand, for 1 ounce of gold processing, around 3 - 4 tons of ore would be sufficient. The gold mines outnumber Platinum mines by far of, 1:10. This literally means that for every 10 Gold mines you would find only 1 Platinum one.
