Promise ring History Promise rings have existed since ancient times. They were used by people holding important official positions and by ordinary folk to keep promises. Promise rings were exchanged during the 16th and 17th in Europe as a symbol of friendship and love. During this period, diamond promise rings were especially common among lovers. There is no hard rule for wearing a promise ring as long as both parties understand the real meaning and intensions of wearing a promise ring. There should not be any misunderstanding later on. Among adolescents, a promise ring can be replaced later on by an engagement ring if they want a serious relationship later. A promise ring can be worn on any finger, however to avoid any confusion on the left ring finger which is for engagement, it is better to wear the promise ring in the right hand finger.
