I don't know that much. Maybe it is some kind of tradition or maybe it is just because people want to make a good wedding. Most of the Indians jewelry are made of gold. You can see rich people in India wearing gold. Most of the actor and actress are like that !
Found this on the net

Choice or tradition. That's a good question. For me it is a tradition. Perhaps there are some people who don't really like gold for their wedding so it is up to them. It depends on your likes and dislikes also. The picture in mayatribute's post is attractive but very big too. I think it's too heavy
Do you really want to use fake jewelries instead of real one? You’re the first one saying this in this forum

Who told you that they were all in gold, or mostly made from gold?! I don't know any gold wedding set! I mean that I have never seen any! I have seen sets of perals wedding jewelry, gold and diamond set and even silver and diamond sets but none that have only gold, and that too, I think that's wht you meant, yellow gold!
One of my aunts had a white gold necklace and bracelet but it was not a wedding jewelry set! I think that white gold is great for wedding jewelry sets and we should leave yellow gold for the brides!

I don't really know if they choose only gold but I have been to many weddings and their bridal sets were mainly made of gold. Maybe it is a tradition in some family but there is no harm if you wan to choose another one. Who said that gold must be the only stone for bridal sets??

well dear i think that it's only a matter of taste. i think that the bride chooses whatever she likes, it all depends on her taste but at times we see that its tradition. some goes for gold, others for pearls, ect. but according to me silver is nicer on a bride.

this is right normally bridal set are usually made up of gold, may be because gold is the most expensive metal on earth and that it does not rust. Wedding such as gold are normally valuable thing, may it due to this and may be some kind of tradition too. May be i should look for more information about it.

i think it all depends on the importance that people attach to certain metals or stones. there are some people who feel that gold has more value than silver, so then i guess they would definitely go for gold. but then some don't care about what has more value but rather get a set which matches their preferences

so you mean that if you go for traditional gold, you'll be choosing it and not being forced to go into it, right?
well, that's great that you see it that way. don't think everybody would though

well, you're right Lu, i don't agree
it's not because i want to be a pain in the neck or anything it's just that if it's tradition you're going for, then i feel it's because that's what you intended to follow all along and hence it's difficult for the person to stray from what he/she is SUPPOSED to do or EXPECTED to do. the person might thing that he/she is CHOOSING it but i just think the person isn't
ok whatever really
