Most ladies prefer having really big diamonds on their rings, its only to show off a little, but if they all came to know about what sudhanuj just mentioned then they would all go hide their big diamond rings!!!

That's a good point sudhanuj. You are absolutely right. I used to think like that before
But my friend put me on the right path! Thanks for sharing it here. Most of us don't really know the secret of jewelry
Especially ladies

The question is quite stupid! I think that the best way is to choose the ring first! When you have the ring in mind you will then know which size of gem you have to choose for the ring!
You can't have a ring that is very 'slim' and have an enormous diamond on it! It wouls look aweful! Better, for a 'slim' ring, have many diamonds encrusted on it!

maybe you didn't get what sudhanuj said?

basically he's saying that getting a BIGGER stone does NOT mean that it's going to be BETTER.

there are SMALLER stones which have better value than the big diamond stones.

so, it's not necessary for you to go for a big diamond stone for your nose ring, a smaller stone might have better value, see?

What if I don't have a gemscope? but you might be right there, that's useful information. Sweet angel didn't get you well there.
And by the way, how will you look with a big diamond on your nose?
